2-Methyl-1-butene, an isoamylene grouped under the class of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), is typically a heavy, active component of C5 olefin fractions of gasoline.

Application

2-Methyl-1-butene may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of the analyte in poly(methyl methacrylate) kitchen utensils, household waste and building materials, products of vapor phase olefin-ozone reactions, and Fischer–Tropsch synthesis products by various chromatography techniques.
