General description

α-Ketoglutaric acid, an α-ketoacid, is identified as a potential, renal cell carcinoma (RCC) biomarker via urinary metabolomic profiling.[1] It plays an important role in living beings as an angiogenesis suppressor.[2]

Application

α-Ketoglutaric acid may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in the following:
  • Human plasma samples using gas-chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry.[2]
  • Beer samples using high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection, and further confirmed by high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-MS/MS).[3]
  • Fruits and vegetables using HPLC-MS/MS.[4]
