General description

Spermidine is a naturally occurring polyamine compound commonly found in food. It is essential for cell growth and survival.

Application

Refer to the product′s Certificate of Analysis for more information on a suitable instrument technique. Contact Technical Service for further support.
Spermidine may be used as one of the reference standard for the determination of spermidine in biological samples by high performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization–ion trap tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC–ESI–ITMS/MS).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Inhibits neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS). Binds and precipitates DNA; may be used for purification of DNA binding proteins. Stimulates T4 polynucleotide kinase activity.

Packaging

Bottomless glass bottle. Contents are inside inserted fused cone.

Caution

Solutions should be sterile-filtered, not autoclaved, if sterile solution is necessary. Spermidine deaminates with time; solutions should be stored frozen. Prepare new solutions frequently.

Although autophagy has widely been conceived as a self-destructive mechanism that causes cell death, accumulating evidence suggests that autophagy usually mediates cytoprotection, thereby avoiding the apoptotic or necrotic demise of stressed cells. Recent evidence produced by our groups demonstrates that

Age-dependent memory impairment is known to occur in several organisms, including Drosophila, mouse and human. However, the fundamental cellular mechanisms that underlie these impairments are still poorly understood, effectively hampering the development of pharmacological strategies to treat the condition.
