- A catalyst in the tandem Knoevenagel-Michael reaction of dimedone with aromatic aldehydes to synthesize bis-dimedone derivatives.
- A solvent to synthesize 4-quinolones via Sonogashira cross-coupling of iodoanilines and alkynes.
- A base in the desymmetrizing cyclization of benzylic diallyl iodide to synthesize methylene indanes via intramolecular Heck reaction.
- A template in the synthesis of silicoaluminophosphate (SAPO) molecular sieves.
