General description

Fenpropathrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide used in veterinary medicine and also for crop protection in agriculture. Pyrethroid insecticides act by disrupting nerve function and produce acute neurotoxic effects in both insects and non-target organisms.

Application

Fenpropathrin may be used as an insecticide reference standard for the determination of the analyte:
  • In vegetables using high-performance liquid chromatography with a photochemically-induced post-column method, and fluorescence detection and using gas chromatography with electron capture detector (GC-ECD).
  • In Chinese tea by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) method following the extraction with acetone–ethyl acetate–hexane, clean-up using gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and solid-phase extraction (SPE).
