Are Davisil series 710 silica gels heat activated? What does "NW" in supplier name for product "Davisil Grade 710NW" refer to for product 236756?
All of our Davisil silica gels are heated to dry just prior to packaging. However, silica can easily pick up moisture when a container is opened. For any water sensitive applications, this is what we recommend: Prior to use, to get rid of free water from the silica gel, dry the silica at 180°C for a few hours (e.g., 3 hours) in a drying oven. Note that at a temperature above 200°C, there will be loss of silanol groups. The "NW" is an internal Grace designation which is not necessarily related to the product other than it being a narrow particle size distribution and manufactured at a plant in Worms, Germany.
