General description

1,2-Bis(2-aminophenoxy)ethane-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetic acid is a highly selective calcium chelating reagent. Effect of microinjected calcium-loaded 1,2-bis(2-aminophenoxy)ethane-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetic acid (CaBAPTA) on cell-to-cell diffusion of carboxyfluorescein has been studied in staminal hairs of Setcreasea purpurea. It is reported to be a metabolite of 1,2-bis(2-aminophenoxy)ethane-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetic acid tetra(acetoxymethyl ester) (BAPTA-AM) in rat urine.

Application

1,2-Bis(2-aminophenoxy)ethane-N,N,N′,N′′-tetraacetic acid was used for the spectrophotometric monitoring of Ca2+ levels. It may be used as chelator of cytosolic Ca²+ to investigate the effect of methoxychlor on cytosolic free Ca²+ concentrations and apoptosis in HA59T human hepatoma cells.

A role for increases in intracellular calcium (Ca2+) has been suggested in the pathophysiology of various forms of oxidant-mediated cell injury. In recent studies, we found that iron bound to the Pseudomonas aeruginosa siderophore, pyochelin, augments oxidant-mediated endothelial cell injury

Methoxychlor, an organochlorine pesticide, is thought to be an endocrine disrupter that affects Ca²⁺ homeostasis and cell viability in different cell models. This study explored the action of methoxychlor on cytosolic free Ca²⁺ concentrations ([Ca²⁺]i) and apoptosis in HA59T human

We designed Calcium Rubies, a family of functionalizable BAPTA-based red-fluorescent calcium (Ca(2+)) indicators as new tools for biological Ca(2+) imaging. The specificity of this Ca(2+)-indicator family is its side arm, attached on the ethylene glycol bridge that allows coupling the
