Gene Information

mouse ... Pax7(18509)

General description

Paired box protein Pax-7 (PAX7) belongs to the Pax family of transcription factors, a highly conserved group of proteins with crucial roles in tissue homeostasis and organogenesis. PAX7 is involved in the specification, survival, maintenance, and self-renewal of skeletal muscle progenitors and myogenic progenitors. It is primarily expressed in newly activated and quiescent satellite cells. Studies have shown that on activation, quiescent satellite cells co-express MyoD with PAX7 prior to proliferation, after which one or the other transcription factor is downregulated. Downregulation of MyoD instead of PAX7 leads to withdrawal from the cell cycle and myogenic differentiation, causing the cell to return to seemingly quiescent state. Chromosomal aberrations relating to PAX7 have been linked to rhabdomysarcoma 2 (RMS2).

Immunogen

KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to mouse PAX7.

Application

Anti-PAX7 Antibody, clone 2F12H4 is a Rat monoclonal antibody for detection of PAX7 also known as paired box homeotic gene 7, paired box protein Pax-7, paired domain gene 7 & has been validated in WB, ICC.
Immunocytochemistry: A previous lot of this antibody was shown to detect Pax7 localized in euchromatin of human Ewing’s
sarcoma cells. The antibodies are detected with Alexa Fluor 488-conjugated anti-rat IgG. Each sample is counterstained with hoechst (Harada, A., et al. (2009). Hybridoma, 26:6. Hyb.2009.0039).

Evaluated by Western Blot in mouse fetal brain tissue lysate.

Western Blot Analysis: 1 µg/mL of this antibody detected PAX7 in 10 µg of mouse fetal brain tissue lysate.

Target description

~ 55 kDa observed.
The calculated MW of PAX7 is 55 kDa; however, expression of PAX7 can have multiple isoforms. (Robert B., et al. (2008). Physiol. Genomics 33:41-49.)
