General description

UniProt Summary

FUNCTION: SwissProt: P02741 # Displays several functions associated with host defense: it promotes agglutination, bacterial capsular swelling, phagocytosis and complement fixation through its calcium-dependent binding to phosphorylcholine. Can interact with DNA and histones and may scavenge nuclear material released from damaged circulating cells.
COFACTOR: Binds 2 calcium ions per subunit.
SIZE: 224 amino acids; 25039 Da
SUBUNIT: Homopentamer. Pentaxin (or pentraxin) have a discoid arrangement of 5 non-covalently bound subunits.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Secreted.
TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Found in plasma.
SIMILARITY: SwissProt: P02741 ## Belongs to the pentaxin family. & Contains 1 pentaxin domain.
MISCELLANEOUS: This protein owes its name to its ability precipitate pneumococcal C-polysaccharide in the presence of calcium.

Specificity

Used to detect/quantify: C-Reactive Protein

Application

The human C-reactive protein (CRP) kit is designed to measure the amount of human CRP in serum or plasma. There are enough reagents included in this kit for one 96-well immuno-assay plate. We recommend running duplicate wells for samples and standards.

For Research Use Only; Not for use in diagnostic procedures.

Features and Benefits

  • Test tubes for diluting samples
  • Precision pipettes to deliver 2-1000 mL
  • Microplate reader with 450 ± 10 nm filter
  • Software package facilitating data generation and analysis
  • Microtitration plate washer (optional) [Manual washing is possible but not preferable.]
  • Absorbent material for blotting the microwell plate
  • Clean 250-500 mL wash bottle for buffer
  • Adhesive cover for microplates
  • Deionized (distilled) water

Packaging

96 wells

Components

  • Microwell Strips (96 wells), coated with Anti-human CRP Antibody, vacuum sealed (Catalog No. CYT298a)
  • Conjugate Concentrate (100x) (Anti-human CRP Antibody, Horseradish Peroxidase Conjugate), 0.13 mL (Catalog No. CYT298b)
  • Human CRP Standard, 1.0 mg/mL (100x), 0.13 mL, (Catalog No. CYT298c)
  • Substrate (TMB) Solution, 12 mL, Protect from light. Non-carcinogenic. (Catalog No. CYT298d)
  • Stop Solution (diluted phosphoric acid), 12 mL (Catalog No. CYT298e)
  • Wash Buffer, 1 packet (Tris with Tween 20, pH 7.4 and with 0.05% Tween 20 when reconstituted to 1 liter of distilled water)

Storage and Stability

Store the kit at 2° to 8°C for up to 6 months after date of receipt or until expiration date. Precautions This kit contains components of human origin. These materials were found non-reactive for hepatitis B surface antigen and for HIV antibody. However, these materials should be handled as potentially infectious, as no tests can guarantee the complete absence of infectious agents.
  • Avoid contact with the acidic Stop Solution and Substrate Solution, which contains urea peroxide. Wear gloves and eye protection when handling these reagents. In case of contact with the Stop Solution and the Substrate Solution wash skin thoroughly with water and seek medical attention, when necessary.
  • HRP-labeled conjugate and TMB-substrate are photosensitive and are packaged in a protective opaque bottle. Store in the dark and return to storage after use.
  • Wear gloves and laboratory coats when handling the kit.
  • The materials must not be pipetted by mouth.
  • Do not drink, eat or smoke in the areas where the kit is being handled.
  • Reagents with different lot numbers should not be mixed.
