Gene Information

human ... VANGL2(57216)

General description

Vang-like protein 2 (UniProt: Q9ULK5; also known as Loop-tail protein 1 homolog, Strabismus 1, Van Gogh-like protein 2) is encoded by the VANGL2 (also known as KIAA1215, STB1) gene (Gene ID: 57216) in human. Vangl2 is a homodimeric multi-pass membrane protein that plays a role in the control of early morphogenesis, patterning of both axial midline structures and the development of neural plate. It can also form heterodimer with VANGL1. It is required for polarization and movement of myocardializing cells in the outflow tract and seems to act via RHOA signaling to regulate this process. Vang-like protein 2 is reported to bind to Dvl to cell-autonomously promote efficient Dvl plasma membrane recruitment, a pre-requisite for planar cell polarity activation. At the same time, it can inhibit Dvl from interacting with its downstream effector (Dishevelled associated activator of morphogenesis 1 (Daam1), and functionally suppresses Dvl - Daam1 cascade. Mutations in VANGL2 gene cause neural tube defects that results in defective neural tube closure during the first trimester of pregnancy. (Ref.: Seo, HS et al. (2017). Hum. Mol. Genet. 26(11); 2053-2061).

Specificity

This rabbit polyclonal antibody detects Vang-like protein 2 in human and murine cells. It targets an epitope with in 15 amino acids from the N-terminal region.

Immunogen

Epitope: N-terminus
KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to 15 amino acids from the N-terminal region of human Vang-like Protein 2.

Application

Anti-Vangl2, Cat. No. ABN2242, is a highly specific rabbit polyclonal antibody that targets Vang-like protein 2 and has been tested for use in Immunocytochemistry, Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin), and Western Blotting.
