General description
SRY box-containing 11 (Sox11) is a neural transcription factor belonging to the DNA-binding high-mobility group (HMG) box protein super family. It is highly expressed during embryonic development and regulates genes involved in neurite growth and survival. Sox11 plays an important role in the formation of sensory neurons and organogenesis. Sox11-deficient mice show defects in multiple organs including the lung, heart, and pancreas. Sox11 also plays a critical role as a tumor suppressor. Epigenetic suppression of the Sox11 gene, primarily through promoter hypermethylation, contributes to various forms of neoplasms. In adults, Sox11 may be involved in the regeneration of neurons after nerve injury by inducing the expression of the small proline rich protein 1a gene (Sprr1a).
Immunogen
