Gene Information
human ... PRDM12(59335)
General description
Histone methylation occurs on arginine and lysine residues and is catalyzed by two families of proteins, the protein arginine methyltransferase family and the SET-domain-containing methyltransferase family. Five members have been identified in the arginine methyltransferase family. About 27 are grouped into the SET-domain family, and another 17 make up the PR domain family that is related to the SET domain family. The retinoblastoma protein-interacting zinc finger gene RIZ1 is a tumor suppressor gene and the founding member of the PR domain family. PRDM12 (PR domain zinc finger protein 12) also acts as a tumor suppressor and is linked to the pathogenesis of chronic myeloid leukemia. PRDM12 is also thought to play a role in transcriptional regulation.
Immunogen

Regulation of food intake and energy balance depends on a group of hypothalamic neurons that release anorexigenic melanocortins encoded by the Pomc gene. Although the physiological importance of central melanocortins is well appreciated, the genetic program that defines the functional
