General description
Interleukin-8 (IL-8) is a chemokine produced by macrophages, epithelial cells and endothelial cells. IL-8′s primary function is to recruit neutrophils to phagocytose the antigen which trigger the antigen pattern toll-like receptors. IL-8 can be secreted by any cells with toll-like receptors which are involved in a body’s innate immune response. Once IL-8 is secreted, it becomes an important mediator of immune reaction and inflammatory response. IL-8’s monomer and homodimer forms are both inducers of CXCR1 and CXCR2. IL-8 is also believed to play a role in the pathogenesis of bronchiolitis, a common respiratory tract disease caused by viral infection.
Specificity
Reacts with human IL-8.
No reactivity to IL-1alpha, IL-1beta, IL-2, IL-3, IL4, IL-6, IL-7, IL-10, MIP-1alpha, TNFalpha, GM-CSF and IgG WHO standards by EIA.
