1,2,6-Hexanetriol can be used as a reactant to synthesize:
- Unsaturated alcohols via rhenium-catalyzed deoxydehydration.
- Branched polyesters via melt polycondensation with dicarboxylic acids in the presence of tertrabutyl titanate as a catalyst.
- Shape memory polymer foams with enhanced degradation resistance.
- α-Hydroxyketones via catalytic selective oxidation of 1,2-diols.
- Primary tosylates via dibutyltin oxide-catalyzed tosylation with tosyl chloride.
