General description

A cell-permeable and selective inhibitor of the phosphatase complexes that dephosphorylate eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 subunit α (eIF-2α). Shown to offer protection against ER stress-induced apoptosis (EC50 ~15 µM in PC12 cells stimulated with 750 ng/ml of Tunicamycin (Cat. No. 654380). Prevents HSV replication both in Vero cells (IC50 ~3 µM for reducing plaque formation) in vitro and in a mouse cornea infection model in vivo. The solid form of this compound (Cat. No. 324895) is also available.

Autophagy plays an important role in the infectious processes of diverse pathogens. For instance, cellular autophagy could be harnessed by viruses to facilitate replication. However, it is still uncertain about the interplay of autophagy and swine acute diarrhea syndrome coronavirus
