General description

A non-amino, chloro-containing bisphosphonate that acts as a potent inhibitor of osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. It is metabolized into a non-hydrolyzable ATP analog in osteoclasts and macrophages, and induces apoptosis by inhibiting mitochondrial function. An efficient metal chelator that inhibits invasion, adhesion, and migration of PC-3 prostate cancer cells (IC50 = 100 nM).
