Gene Information

General description

Research area: Apoptosis

N-terminal GST-tagged, recombinant human TRAF6 full length, expressed in E.coli. The p53 protein is a tumor suppressor encoded by TP53 gene located on chromosome 17.

Application

Ubiquitination Cascade Comoponent: Substrate

Biochem/physiol Actions

p53 is expressed in a wide variety of tissues and plays a major role in preventing tumour development. It is involved in cell cycle regulation, functioning as a trans-activator to negatively regulate cell division by controlling a set of genes required for this process. It acts as a tumour suppressor in many tumour types by stimulating either apoptosis or growth arrest, depending on the physiological circumstances and the cell type. Defects in p53 expression have been implicated in several diseases, including choroid plexus papilloma, lung cancer, head/neck squamous cell carcinomas, oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma, Li-Fraumeni syndrome, and hereditary adrenocortical carcinoma.

Physical form

Purified using immobilized metal affinity chromatography.

The p53 protein is a transcription factor known as the "guardian of the genome" because of its critical function in preserving genomic integrity. The TP53 gene is mutated in approximately half of all human malignancies, including those of the breast
