General description

Research area: Apoptosis

N-terminal GST-tagged, recombinant full length human P53 protein, expressed in E. coli. Purified using glutathione agarose chromatography. Product Source: Full-length human p53 protein, expressed in e. coli. p53 protein is encoded by the tumor suppressor gene TP53 gene mapped on chromosome 17.

Biochem/physiol Actions

In the cell, the p53 protein binds to DNA, leading to the activation of another gene that produces the p21 protein. This protein interacts with a cell division-stimulating protein (cdk2), preventing the cell from progressing to the next stage of cell division. Mutation in p53 protein leads to uncontrolled cell division resulting in tumor formation. The p53 protein is suggested to impede the phenotypic and genomic changes linked to cancer development through its intricate interaction with various signaling pathways including cell division, genomic stability maintenance, apoptosis, autophagy, immune response, and tumor microenvironment regulation.
