General description

The MacConkey Broth supports the growth of most gram-negative bacteria, whereas the presence of bile salts inhibits the growth of gram-positive bacteria. The color of the medium is changed from violet to yellow due to the degradation of lactose to acid by bacteria. The change in pH is indicated by the pH indicator bromocresol purple, which shows reduced inhibition compared to neutral red.

Application

MacConkey Broth is suitable for the sterility testing of pharmaceutical products. It is designed for the enrichment of Enterobacteriaceae and the detection of Escherichia coli.
