R2A Agar

R2A Agar is used for determining the heterotrophic total microbial count in water for injections in bulk, highly purified water, and purified water in bulk.

Our ready to use media provide the highest level of quality and testing confidence. They have been formulated and tested to meet the pharmacopoeia requirements. Our media are manufactured in an ISO 9001, environmentally controlled production center. Each lot undergoes a stringent quality control (QC) procedure, including pH, sterility and growth promotion tests. Our manufacturing approach ensures the highest level of clarity for our media and rinsing fluids, therefore improving accuracy and significantly reducing the risk of incorrect interpretation and false results.

R2A Agar (Reasoner´s 2A agar) is designed to promote the growth of micro-organisms that grow in low nutrient environments, such as water. The reduced amount of nutrients in the medium allows the growth of aerobic, heterotrophic micro-organisms, which are adapted to low nutrient content. The low concentration of yeast extract, casein hydrolysate, peptone, and glucose allows the growth of a wide spectrum of micro-organisms, without the fast-growing micro-organisms suppressing the slow-growing species (which would be the case on richly nutritious media). Starch and pyruvate particularly support the growth of injured the micro-organisms.
