General description
Human recombinant N-terminal His-tagged MeCP2 expressed in SF9 insect cells and purified by Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography (FPLC).
MeCP2 (methyl-CpG-binding protein 2) binds methylated CpG sequences in double-stranded DNA resulting in the suppression of transcription. This protein is likely to be involved in the repression of multiple genes. Consistent with this role, mutations of MeCP2 are linked to Rett syndrome, a progressive neurological disorder that is one of the most common causes of mental retardation in females.
