General description

Glutathione S-transferase (GST) belongs to three families of proteins distinguished as cytosolic, mitochondrial, and microsomal GST. At present, eight distinct classes of the soluble cytoplasmic mammalian glutathione S-transferases have been identified: α, κ, μ, ω, π, σ, θ, and ζ. This product is a C-terminal 6 histidine-tagged, recombinant full-length glutathione S-transferase (GST).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are a family of enzymes that play an important role in phase II detoxification by catalyzing the conjugation of many hydrophobic and electrophilic compounds with reduced glutathione. The glutathione S-transferase pi gene (GSTP1) is a polymorphic gene encoding active, functionally different GSTP1 variant proteins that are thought to function in xenobiotic metabolism and play a role in susceptibility to cancer, and other diseases.
