General description

Norcodeine is a primary urinary metabolite of codeine. Codeine is an opiate used for its analgesic, antitussive, and sedative properties and is the second-most predominant alkaloid in opium. This certified Snap-N-Spike® Solution is applicable for use in LC/MS or GC/MS applications from urine drug testing and pain prescription monitoring to clinical toxicology and forensic analysis.

Application

  • Pharmacokinetics and nociceptive effects of codeine in horses: A study conducted by Knych HK et al., investigated the pharmacokinetics and the effects on thermal nociception in horses following the administration of codeine. This research provides valuable data for understanding how opioid metabolites like norcodeine behave in non-human subjects, aiding in veterinary pharmacological applications (Knych et al., 2022).
  • Opioid metabolite analysis in forensic toxicology: Jakobsson G and colleagues developed a method using LC-MS/MS to analyze heroin-related compounds, including norcodeine, in postmortem samples. This research is crucial for forensic investigations, providing detailed insights into the metabolite profiles that can assist in the detection and analysis of opioid abuse cases (Jakobsson et al., 2021).
  • Analysis of opioid metabolites in forensic cases: Feliu C et al. presented a technique for quantifying various opioids and their derivatives, such as norcodeine, in whole blood using liquid chromatography-high-resolution mass spectrometry. This method is significant for forensic science, contributing to the accurate assessment of substances involved in fatal cases (Feliu et al., 2020).

A reversed-phase ion-pair high-performance liquid chromatographic method for the simultaneous determination of codeine and seven metabolites is described. The samples are purified by reversed-phase solid-phase extraction. Codeine, norcodeine, codeine-6-glucuronide, norcodeine-6-glucuronide and morphine-3-glucuronide are measured with UV detection. Detection limits are
