General description

DHEAS is a metabolite of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), an endogenous steroid that has been implicated in a broad range of biological effects in humans and other mammals. DHEAS levels are measured by LC-MS/MS for determination of excess adrenal activity as observed in adrenal cancer, certain forms of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), and polycystic ovary syndrome.

Application

  • Pharmacokinetic Assessment: Research highlighted the utilization of DHEAS sodium salt in pharmacokinetic studies, exemplified by the development of an LC-MS/MS method to measure Sodium Tanshinone IIA Sulfonate in human plasma. This methodology underscores the role of DHEAS as a critical steroid hormone in biomedicine, enabling precise quantification and study of drug metabolites in clinical settings (Qin et al., 2016).
