General description

Phosphatidylinositol 5-Phosphate (PI5P) is present in the endosomes, trans-Golgi network and smooth endoplasmic reticulum. It is abundantly localized to the plasma membrane but also found in the intracellular membranes of the organelles.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphorylation of phosphatidylinositol 5-phosphate (PI5P) by phosphatidylinositol 5-phosphate (PI5P) type II PIPKs (PIPKIIs) produces phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PI-4,5-P2), which, is a potent signaling molecule. PI5P is a lipid messenger associated with stress-induced pathways in the nucleus. It is known to possess housekeeping functions and aids in cell activation during bacterial infections.

Phosphoinositide signaling pathways regulate numerous processes in eukaryotic cells, including migration, proliferation, and survival. The regulatory lipid phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate is synthesized by two distinct classes of phosphatidylinositol phosphate kinases (PIPKs), the type I and II PIPKs. Although numerous physiological functions

Recent studies of the low abundant signaling lipid, phosphatidylinositol 3,5-bisphosphate (PI(3,5)P2 ), reveal an intriguingly diverse list of downstream pathways, the intertwined relationship between PI(3,5)P2 and PI5P, as well as links to neurodegenerative diseases. Phosphorylated phosphatidylinositol lipids are crucial for most eukaryotes and have diverse cellular functions. The low-abundance signalling lipid phosphatidylinositol 3,5-bisphosphate [PI(3,5)P2] is critical for cellular homoeostasis and adaptation to stimuli. PtdIns5P is a lipid messenger acting as a stress-response mediator in the nucleus, and known to maintain cell activation through traffic alterations upon bacterial infection. Here, we show that PtdIns5P regulates actin dynamics and invasion via recruitment and activation of
