General description

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is an acidic phospholipid present in human cerebral cortex. It is abundant in the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane in neural tissues.

Application

17:0-14:1 PS or 1-heptadecanoyl-2-(9Z-tetradecenoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phospho-L-serine has been used as an internal standard:
  • for the detection of lipids by tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS)
  • to determine lipid concentration in human primary myotubes lipid extracts by mass spectrometry (MS) analysis
  • for phospholipid quantification by MS
  • for lipid extraction by methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) method
  • for lipid quantification using liquid chromatography (LC)-MS

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is associated with the Akt, protein kinase C (PKC) and Raf-1 signaling. It supports neuronal survival, neurite growth and synaptogenesis.

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is the major anionic phospholipid class particularly enriched in the inner leaflet of the plasma membrane in neural tissues. PS is synthesized from phosphatidylcholine or phosphatidylethanolamine by exchanging the base head group with serine, and this reaction is

Dysregulated mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) promotes cancer, but underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. We describe an mTOR-driven mouse model that displays hepatosteatosis progressing to hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Longitudinal proteomic, lipidomics, and metabolomic analyses revealed that hepatic mTORC2 promotes de
