General description

Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) is mostly found in the pulmonary surfactant and localized to the alveoli.

Application

17:0-20:4 PG or 1-heptadecanoyl-2-(5Z,8Z,11Z,14Z-eicosatetraenoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol):
  • has been used as an internal standard (IS) in lipid extraction from isolated pure mitochondria for mass spectrometry (MS) analysis
  • has been used as an internal standard (IS) in liquid chromatography (LC)-MS analysis
  • might be used in dual substrate (acyl-CoA and lysophospholipid) choice acyltransferase assay
  • might be used for quantitative phospholipid analysis by MS

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylglycerol (PG) is known to be involved in the inflammatory mechanism and offers protection against viral infection.

Cardiolipin (CL), a mitochondria-specific glycerophospholipid, is required for diverse mitochondrial processes and orchestrates the function of various death-inducing proteins during apoptosis. Here, we identify a complex of the p53-regulated protein TRIAP1 (p53CSV) and PRELI in the mitochondrial intermembrane space (IMS)

The cycle of deacylation and reacylation of phospholipids plays a critical role in regulating availability of arachidonic acid for eicosanoid production. The major yeast lysophospholipid acyltransferase, Ale1p, is related to mammalian membrane-bound O-acyltransferase (MBOAT) proteins. We expressed four human MBOATs

Structural analogs of the bioactive lipid 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoglycerol were synthesized with a xylitol polar head group and both diacyl and diether radyl groups. Mass spectral characterization of xylitol phospholipids (PX) was carried out using collisional activation and high-resolution mass measurements of
