General description

6-Hydroxysphingosine is one of the moieties that make up the class of ceramides, which are lipids localized to stratum corneum. It is formed due to incorporation of hydroxyl group to long chain bases.

Application

N(2′-(R)-hydroxypalmitoyl(d9)) 6R-hydroxysphingosine (CER7-2′R,6R(d9)) has been used as an internal standard for qualitative analysis of stratum corneum (SC) ceramides in humans and mice by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS)/MS.

Biochem/physiol Actions

6-Hydroxysphingosine is one of the sphingoid bases in skin.

Ceramides are the predominant lipids in the stratum corneum (SC) and are crucial components for normal skin barrier function. Although the composition of various ceramide classes in the human SC has been reported, that in mice is still unknown, despite
