General description
D-ribo-Phytosphingosine is a stereoisomer of phytosphingosine. D-ribo-phytosphingosine is present mainly in the membranes of fungi, plants, bacteria, marine organisms, and mammalian tissues.
Application
D-ribo-Phytosphingosine has been used to determine its ability to rescue the growth defect of the PFA4 deletion strain (pfa4Δ) in response to myriocin. It has also been used to capture phosphatidylinositol bisphosphate (PI(4,5)P2), phosphatidylinositol triphosphate (PI(3,4,5)P3), phosphatidyl serine (PS) and phosphatidyl choline (PC) liposomes on a carboxymethyl dextran chip (CMDHchip). It may be used for the preparation of lipids.
Biochem/physiol Actions
D-ribo-phytosphingosine modulates cellular growth and acts as a precursor for several lipid mediators, such as phytosphingosine (PHS) 1-phosphate, inositol phosphorylceramide and KRN7000 (α-anomer of galactosylceramide). It helps in mediating the heat stress response of yeast cells.

The rapid and precise clearance of apoptotic cells (efferocytosis) involves a series of phagocytic processes through which apoptotic cells are recognized, engulfed, and degraded within phagocytes. The Rho-family GTPases critically rearrange the cytoskeleton for these phagocytic processes, but we know

Arabidopsis LONG-CHAIN BASE KINASE 1 (LCBK1) interacts with MEDEA, a component of PCR2 complex that negatively regulates immunity. LCBK1 phosphorylates phytosphingosine and thereby promotes stomatal immunity against bacterial pathogens. Arabidopsis polycomb-group repressor complex2 (PRC2) protein MEDEA (MEA) suppresses both pattern-triggered
