General description

Phosphatidylcholines (PCs) are phospholipids, that are abundantly present in the membrane. The fatty acids in the sn-1 and sn-2 positions of PCs are attached to a glycerol molecule covalently with the help of ester bonds.
The list of Phosphatidylcholine products offered by Avanti is designed to provide compounds having a variety of physical properties. Products available include short chain (C3-C8 are water soluble and hygroscopic), saturated, multi-unsaturated and mixed acid PC′s. All of the products are purified by HPLC, and special precautions are taken to protect the products for oxidization and hydrolysis.

Application

17:0 PC (1,2-diheptadecanoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) has been used:
  • as an internal standard for phospholipids in fatty acid analysis
  • as a component in the extraction mixture for lipid extraction from frozen leaf tissue
  • as an internal standard and a component in methanol: methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) extraction buffer for the determination of metabolite levels in tumor and normal tissues using gas chromatography-mass spectrometrometer (GC-MS)

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylcholines (PCs) serve as a major source for eicosanoids.
