General description

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) belongs to the class of glycerophospholipid. It is the prime cellular phospholipid.
Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is a strong bilayer-forming lipid. It the most common phospholipid in mammalian membranes. It is also an important component of the mucosal layer of the colon.
The list of Phosphatidylcholine products offered by Avanti is designed to provide compounds having a variety of physical properties. Products available include short chain (C3-C8 are water soluble and hygroscopic), saturated, multi-unsaturated and mixed acid PC′s. All of the products are purified by HPLC, and special precautions are taken to protect the products for oxidization and hydrolysis.

Application

14:1 (Δ9-Cis) PC has been used in the liposome preparation. It has also been used as an internal standard for the extraction of lipids from the interstitial fractions of lung tissues for electrospray ionisation-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) analysis.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) contributes to the membrane structure. Each cell type and tissue maintain a unique PC profile. PC plays a key role in cell signaling. Disruption in the homeostasis of PC leads to cell death in mammalian cells. PC is present in bile and aids in lipid emulsification in the diet. It is known to reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It is administered for treating fat embolism and cardiac ischemia. Monounsaturated PC 14:1 (Δ9-Cis) is known to inhibit cell proliferation in different cell lines.
Phosphatidylcholine (PC) functions as a surfactant within the mucus to form a hydrophobic surface to inhibit bacterial penetrance. It is used to treat fat embolism. Phosphatidylcholine lowers the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.

Biological nanopores are capable of resolving small analytes down to a monoatomic ion. In this research, tetrachloroaurate(III), a polyatomic ion, is discovered to bind to the methionine residue (M113) of a wild-type α-hemolysin by reversible Au(III)-thioether coordination. However, the cylindrical
