General description

Phosphoethanolamine contains a phosphate group linked with the second carbon of ethanolamine.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphoethanolamine (PEA) is a precursor to phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylcholine, involved in the biosynthesis of cell membrane. In human body, PEA is a product of degradation of sphingosine phosphate and endocannabinoid anandamide. PEA has potential cytotoxic properties and is known to induce the caspase-independent cell death. PEA is capable of inhibiting tumor growth in vitro and in vivo in mouse models.

Phosphoethanolamine (PEA) is a fundamental precursor during the biosynthesis of cell membranes phospholipids. In the past few years, it has been described as a potential antitumor agent. In previous studies, we demonstrated that PEA showed antitumor properties in vitro and

Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) is the second most abundant phospholipid in mammalian cells. PE comprises about 15-25% of the total lipid in mammalian cells; it is enriched in the inner leaflet of membranes, and it is especially abundant in the inner mitochondrial

Phosphatidylinositol (PI) lipids are necessary for many cellular signaling pathways of membrane associated proteins, such as angiomotin (Amot). The Amot family regulates cellular polarity, growth, and migration. Given the low concentration of PI lipids in these membranes, it is likely
