General description

DC-Cholesterol HCl is a cholesterol derivative and a cationic lipid with a head group and linker moiety.
DC-Cholesterol HCl is a sterol-based transfection reagent.

Application

DC-Cholesterol HCl is suitable:
  • for the preparation of ultrasound cationic microbubbles
  • to prepare liposomes
  • for the preparation of L-glutathione (GSH), loaded proliposomes

DC-Cholesterol HCl may be used in the preparation of colloidal dispersions for transmission electron microscopy studies. It may also be used in liposome preparation for assessing hexokinase activity, poly (lactic-coglycolicacid) loading and in mRNA transfection studies.

Biochem/physiol Actions

DC-Cholesterol is an effective transfection agent and a liposome reagent. Liposome of DC-Cholesterol with dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DOPE) are efficient for DNA transfection. It imparts positive surface charge to the microbubbles for ultra sound based transfection of clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPRs).
DC-cholesterol is a cationic lipid, known to be the most efficient in gene transfection study.

The aim of this work was to investigate lipid-based dried powders as transfection competent carriers capable of promoting the expression of therapeutic genes. The lipid-based vectors were prepared by combining different cationic lipids 1,2-dioleoyl-3-trimethylammoniumpropane chloride (DOTAP), 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (DOPE), 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DOPC)
