General description

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is the most vital component of the mucosal layer of the colon and a strong bilayer-forming lipid. It is the most common phospholipid in mammalian membranes.
Total Egg Extract is prepared by extracting powdered egg yolk with methanol. The methanol extract is partitioned with chloroform and deionized water, and the chloroform phase containing the organic soluble lipids is concentrated.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) acts as a surfactant within the mucus to form a hydrophobic surface to prevents bacterial penetrance. It treats fat embolism. Phosphatidylcholine reduces the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.
