Can the Suba-Seal silicone rubber septa be sterilized with gamma irradiation?
Our silicone suba seals are generally steam sterilized. Testing has not been done here at Sigma-Aldrich using gamma irradiation. Gamma rays are known to change some physical properties of silicone rubber. Refer to the attached white paper from a leading manufacturer of silicone rubber products. Based on this, it seems gamma irradiation is detrimental to silicone rubber.
