General description
11-Mercaptoundecylphosphonic acid (MUP) is an alkyl thiol that forms a self-assembled monolayer on a variety of surfaces. The thiol groups act as the anchor that facilitates the bonding of sulfur molecule to the surface atoms. The phosphoric and trifluoroacetate groups are useful molecules in the detection of monolayers.
Application
MUP can functionalize gold surface by forming a capped layer that can be used as a surface modified electrode material for the fabrication of sensors for biomedical and other industrial applications.
Phosphonic acid that can be used to form self-assembled monolayers onto metal oxide surfaces. Also contains a thiol group that can be used to do click-type chemistry with alkenes or can bind metals.
