A method for the preparation of inorganic superhydrophobic silica coatings using sol-gel processing with tetramethoxysilane and isobutyltrimethoxysilane as precursors is described. Incorporation of isobutyltrimethoxysilane into silica layers resulted in the existence of hydrophobic isobutyl surface groups, thereby generating surface hydrophobicity.

A novel calix[4] open-chain crown ether (p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene-1,3-bis(allyloxyethy) ether)-modified, organic-inorganic hybrid silica-based monolithic column possessing vinyl ligands for CEC is described. The monolithic silica matrix containing a vinyl functionality was synthesized by in situ cocondensation of tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) and vinyltrimethoxysilane (VTMS)

A simple capillary flow porometer (CFP) was assembled for through-pore structure characterization of monolithic capillary liquid chromatography columns in their original chromatographic forms. Determination of differential pressures and flow rates through dry and wet short capillary segments provided necessary information

Structure-switching, fluorescence-signaling DNA and RNA aptamers have been reported as highly versatile molecular recognition elements for biosensor development. While structure-switching DNA aptamers have been utilized for solid-phase sensing, equivalent RNA aptamers have yet to be successfully utilized in solid-phase sensors
