General description
Poly(bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)phosphazene), a highly hydrophobic fluorinated organic-soluble polymer is made up of trifluoroethoxy side groups that are connected to alternating phosphorus and nitrogen atoms. Polyphosphazenes are well suited for a variety of surface applications due to their properties such as hydrophobicity, resistance to many chemicals, bio inertness, high fire resistance, and radiation stability. Due to these excellent properties of poly[bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)phosphazene used in various fields such as membrane research, biomedical materials, battery electrolytes, surface coatings, elastomers, and nonlinear optical (NLO) materials.
Application
A solution of poly[bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)phosphazene] (PTFEP) in tetrahydrofuran, methylethyl ketone and acetone may be used to fabricate nanofibers of PTFEP. Electrospun PTFEP nanofiber mat may find uses in tissue engineering, drug delivery, filters and membranes.

The hydrophilic monomers dimethylacrylamide (DMAA) and acrylamide (AAm) were radiation grafted onto poly[bis-(trifluoroethoxy)phosphazene] (PTFP) for biocompatibility enhancement through direct irradiation of the polymer films immersed in monomer-solvent mixtures, and the progress of grafting was followed up to a large monomer

Clinical success of bone implants is critically related to the interaction between the implant surface and the surrounding tissue. The polymer poly(bis(trifluoroethoxy)phosphazene) (PTFEP) is a promising, highly biocompatible surface coating which also inhibits the adsorption of granulocytes, macrophages, inflammatory cells
