General description

1,2-Dichloroethane (1,2-DCA, EDC) is a halogenated aliphatic hydrocarbon commonly used as a precursor for generating vinyl chloride. Genotoxic studies of EDC have been reported. Structural investigation of EDC by electron diffraction shows that trans-form predominated over gauche-form. The degradation of 1,2-DCA with simultaneous current generation by anodophilic consortia present in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) has been studied. The determination of 1,2-DCA in aqueous solution by an enzyme-based fiber optic biosensor has been reported. The spin-lattice relaxation time of 1,2-DCA in both solid and liquid state has been measured.
