Application
Di-(2-picolyl)amine can be used as:
- A reactant to synthesize di(2-pyridylmethylamino)alkanoic esters using ω-iodoaliphatic carboxylic esters in the presence of triethylamine.
- A ligand to synthesize iron complexes of di-(2-picolyl)amine by treating with iron trichloride, which can be used to catalyze the direct hydroxylation of benzene to phenol.
- A reagent for the protection of carboxylic acids as carboxamides of bispicolylamine.
General description
Di-(2-picolyl)amine (DPA), a secondary amine containing two picolyl substituents, acts as a tridentate ligand due to its three donor nitrogen atoms. It is commonly used in coordination chemistry for the synthesis of binary, ternary, and binuclear complexes with various metal ions, including copper (Cu) and cadmium (Cd).

Extracting valuable products from wastewaters with nitrogen-selective adsorbents can offset energy-intensive ammonia production, rebalance the nitrogen cycle, and incentivize environmental remediation. Separating nitrogen (N) as ammonium from other wastewater cations (e.g., K+ , Ca2+ ) presents a major challenge to
