Application
A novel high-spin hexanuclear Mn(III) cluster, [NaMn6(OMe)12(dbm)6]+, was synthesized via MnCl2 oxidation with simultaneous NaOMe promoted aggregation. This cluster has an unprecedented cyclic structure and 24 unpaired electrons in its ground state. Also used in the formation of an active Mn(0) speciesuseful for radical cyclization reactions.
Starting material for preparation of organomanganese chloride reagents; catalyst for reduction of vinyl and aryl halides, stereoselective coupling of vinyl iodides, and alkylation of enol triflates; also used for Mn-Cu-catalyzed conjugate addition of RMgX to enones and for Mn-catalyzed acylation of RMgX by acyl chlorides; in combination with NaBH4 is diastereoselective reducing agent; starting material for the preparation of Mn enolates regio- and stereo-selectively.

Lung parenchyma remains one of the most difficult tissues to be imaged by means of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Several MRI techniques are routinely used for lung imaging. However, manganese-enhancement MRI (MEMRI) technique has not been associated with pulmonary MRI.
