General description

Selenium powder is a fine, powdery substance made up of small particles of the element selenium, often produced by the reduction of selenium oxide. Selenium powder is grey or silvered-colored and may have a metallic sheen that may appear reddish in color. This product is passed through a 100-mesh sieve, indicating that the particles are small and have a diameter of around 150 micrometers or less, and ensuring the powder is fine and easy-to-handle.

Application

Se is used in the synthesis of CdSe, which is consequetively used to modulate the photoresponse of quantum dot solar cells by varying the size and shape of semiconductor nanostructures.

By using bifunctional surface modifiers (SH-R-COOH), CdSe quantum dots (QDs) have been assembled onto mesoscopic TiO(2) films. Upon visible light excitation, CdSe QDs inject electrons into TiO(2) nanocrystallites. Femtosecond transient absorption as well as emission quenching experiments confirm the injection
