General description

We are committed to bringing you Greener Alternative Products, which adhere to one or more of The 12 Principles of Greener Chemistry. This product has been enhanced for energy efficiency. Find details here.

Application

Catalyst for:
  • Stille reaction
  • Hydrogenation reactions
  • Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling and Heck-Mizoroki reactions
  • Deoxygenation
  • Oxidation reactions
  • Coupling reactions
Palladium on carbon (Pd/C) (10 wt. % loading, matrix activated carbon support) can be used as a catalyst in the well known reactions like hydrogenation of alkenes, alkynes, ketones, nitriles, imines, azides, nitro groups, benzenoid and heterocyclic aromatics; hydrogenolysis of cyclopropanes, benzyl derivatives, epoxides, hydrazines, and halides; dehydrogenate aromatics and deformylate aldehydes.
It can also be used as:

  • A catalyst for hydrodechlorination of dichlorodifluoromethane (CCl2F2), which is a known greenhouse gas,
  • A catalyst for Heck reactions of aryl halides in ionic liquids
  • An anode catalyst for the fabrication of direct formic acid fuel cells (DFAFC)
  • A cost-effective electrocatalyst for the oxidation of methanol
  • In the catalytic hydrogenation of chemical hydrides for the production of hydrogen
  • A catalyst in Suzuki-Mayaura reaction
Product can be used with our benchtop hydrogen generator, H-Genie Lite (Z744083)

  1. Which document(s) contains shelf-life or expiration date information for a given product?

If available for a given product, the recommended re-test date or the expiration date can be found on the Certificate of Analysis.

  2. How do I get lot-specific information or a Certificate of Analysis?

The lot specific COA document can be found by entering the lot number above under the "Documents" section.

  3. How does product number 205699, Palladium on Carbon, differ from 330108, which is also 10 wt % palladium on activated carbon?

Product number 330108 is the wet support and appears as a moist black powder.  Product number 205699 is dry.

  4. Is Product 205699, Palladium on carbon, reduced or unreduced?

It is reduced, but it can oxidize pretty readily.

  5. What is the particle size of Product 205699, Palladium on carbon?

We expect the product to conform to the following: approximately 90% <60 μm and 10% <5 μm with an average particle size of 15 μm.

  6. What is the activity of Product 205699, Palladium on carbon?  How is the activity tested?  Is it a guaranteed value?

There is a fairly large variance in activity reported by the manufacturer on this material (from less than 50 ml/min to more than 100 ml/min).  Activity is not a specification but reported on the Certification of Analysis for further information.  Activity is measured by the hydrogen reduction of nitrobenzene.

  7. What is the surface area of Product 205699, Palladium on carbon?

The surface area of the carbon used as the support is 750-1000 m2 /g.  They do not test the surface area of the finished catalyst.

  8. How do I find price and availability?
