应用
IV 型胶原在血管生成、神经疾病和转移中起关键作用。来自人胎盘的胶原蛋白已用于评估奎宁对气道上皮细胞的生物电效应、研究工程化慢病毒裂解肽的选择性毒性以及用于颗粒聚集测定以快速检测金黄色葡萄球菌（ Staphylococcus aureus）上的纤连蛋白、纤维蛋白原和胶原蛋白受体。在表征人肺肿瘤相关抗原过程中，它还用于镁依赖性胶原结合分析。
生化/生理作用

组分
所有胶原分子由以三螺旋构象排列的三条多肽链组成，其主要结构主要是在每三个位置具有甘氨酸的重复基序，并且脯氨酸或 4-羟基脯氨酸经常在甘氨酸残基之前。IV 型胶原仅在基底膜中发生，并含有多达六个遗传上不同的 α-链。
