Application

Enterostatin human maybe used to study the hydrolytic activity of human angiotensin-converting enzyme-related carboxypeptidase (ACE2) on human biological peptides.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Peptide that inhibits fat intake in experiments involving dietary choice.
Studies show that peripheral and central injection of enterostatin reduces the food intake. In Sprague-Dawley rats, central injection leads to a reduction in the intake of high-fat food as opposed to low-fat food. Therefore, it might have a role in the feedback loop of dietary fat. In a chronic manner, it is responsible for the reduction of body fat, intake of fat and body weight. It controls the secretory activity of β-cells of pancreas, and suppresses insulin secretion without affecting the secretion of glucagon and somatostatin. It might also have anti-incretin activity in the enteroinsular axis, and might regulate postprandial hyperinsulinemia.

General description

Enterostatin is a pentapeptide Val-Pro-Asp-Pro-Arg (VPDPR) obtained from trypsin digestion of procolipase, which is a pancreatic lipase. It is produced by the intestine, and the gastric mucosa.

Enterostatin is a pentapeptide generated by trypic digestion of procolipase in the small intestine. Both peripheral and central administration of this peptide to rats has been shown to reduce food intake, this reduction being due to specific suppression of fat

Pancreatic procolipase is activated by trypsin forming colipase, a cofactor for pancreatic lipase involved in intestinal fat digestion and a pentapeptide named enterostatin. Enterostatin with the sequence Val-Pro-Asp-Pro-Arg (VPDPR) was previously shown to decrease food intake in rats both after

A high fat intake, together with an inability to match lipid oxidation to fat intake, has been found to be correlated with obesity in humans. This review describes our current understanding of enterostatin, a peptide that selectively reduces fat intake.

Human angiotensin-converting enzyme-related carboxypeptidase (ACE2) is a zinc metalloprotease whose closest homolog is angiotensin I-converting enzyme. To begin to elucidate the physiological role of ACE2, ACE2 was purified, and its catalytic activity was characterized. ACE2 proteolytic activity has a pH
