General description

Steroid and thyroid hormones are small molecule endocrine hormones secreted from adrenal glands (cortisol), ovaries (estradiol and progesterone), and the thyroid (T3 and T4). These hormones play key roles in the regulation of energy balance, mental and physical development, sex organ development, reproduction, and pregnancy. These hormones play a role in the patho-physiology of many diseases such as thyroid-related diseases (Grave’s disease and hyper/hypothyroidism), steroid-related diseases (Cushing’s syndrome) and stress related diseases. Endocrine disrupting chemincals (EDC) can impact normal functioning of steroid and thyroid hormones.

The MILLIPLEX® Multi-Species Hormone Panel is a 5-plex kit to be used for the simultaneous quantification of any or all of the following analytes in serum, plasma and cell/tissue culture samples: Cortisol, Estradiol, Progesterone, T3 and T4. This multi-species kit may be used to detect these analytes in human, dog, rat, mouse, cynomolgous monkey, rhesus monkey, horse, rabbit, cat, guinea pig, pig and hamster. The kit has been verified with human and canine samples. The amount of cross-reactivity to other species has been confirmed, but not tested to the same level of verification as was used for human and canine. All analytes in this kit are run in a competitive assay format. This kit uses a 96-well format, contains a lyophilized standard cocktail, two internal assay quality controls and can measure up to 38 samples in duplicate.

The Luminex® xMAP® platform uses a magnetic bead immunoassay format for ideal speed and sensitivity to quantitate multiple analytes simultaneously, dramatically improving productivity while conserving valuable sample volume.

Panel Type: Endocrine

Specificity

Approximately 10% cross-reactivity to Cortisol is observed in the Progesterone assay and approximately 5% cross-reactivity to T3 is observed in the T4 assay. No other significant cross-reactivity is observed within the panel or to other similar analytes.

This multi-species kit may be used to detect these 5 analytes in human, dog, rat, mouse, cynomolgous monkey, rhesus monkey, horse, rabbit, cat, guinea pig, pig and hamster. However, the kit was fully validated with human and canine samples only and the amount of cross-reactivity to other species tested has not been determined.
Cross Reactivty
Approximately 10% cross-reactivity to Cortisol is observed in the Progesterone assay and approximately 5% cross-reactivity to T3 is observed in the T4 assay. No other significant cross-reactivity is observed within the panel or to other similar analytes.

Application

  • Analytes: Cortisol, Estradiol, Progesterone, T3, T4
  • NOTE: This multi-species kit may be used to detect these analytes in human, dog, rat, mouse, cynomolgus monkey, rhesus monkey, horse, rabbit, cat, guinea pig, pig and hamster. However, the kit was validated with human and canine samples only and the amount of cross-reactivity to other species tested, has not been determined.
  • NOTE: This assay requires an extraction step for serum and plasma samples (instructions are provided in the kit protocol).
  • NOTE: This is a competitive immunoassay
  • Recommended Sample Type: Serum, plasma, or tissue/cell culture supernatants or lysates from multiple species
  • Recommended Sample Dilution: 25 μL per well of undiluted extracted serum or plasma. Tissue/cell culture samples may be run neat or diluted in an appropriate control media.
  • Assay Run Time: Overnight (16-20 hours) at 2-8°C.
  • Research Category: Metabolism
  • Research Category: Endocrine
