Non-Fat Dry Milk (NFDM) Solution for Blocking Western Blots
Non-fat dry milk (NFDM) blocking buffer is ideal for saturating excess protein-binding sites on membranes for Western blotting. The primary proteins in milk are casein and whey. Typically, 1-5% NFDM is sufficient for most Western blots. To make a 1% solution of NFDM, combine 1 g of NFDM and 100 mL of TBST.
This calculator enables the accurate NFDM solution preparation to make enough for a single experiment or for the entire lab. Input your desired concentration and volume, click the CALCULATE button, and the table will populate with the amounts of each component needed.
